When the source water for a pond or decorative feature comes from a Floridan Aquifer well (common on rural properties), the iron, sulfide, and hardness load in the water transfers to the feature. Iron stains the rocks and accelerates impeller wear; hardness scales the pump body. We mention upstream treatment when we see the signs on the pump and intake.
